Pictou Weekend Market

Well, I finally joined the world of the Blog. Not exactly sure what to say here but will start with a little history of the Market.

15 years ago we started the market with 25 vendors and ran it as a co-op. Two of those vendors are with us today.

Over the years we have increased our vendors along with our quality of crafts. We have added the Pork Shop and have the "This and That Cafe" with us. Our crafts go from wooden products to book publication. We also have body products, jewelry, an artist on site, fresh breads and pickles and jams. Fine furniture by the Tuckered Duck and pine and spruce furniture by J & B Woodworking. We have the Rock Maple toy Company and Gary Levy who does wonderful tables and kitchen items. Norma Piles' Sauce Company is with us this season and it has been a major hit along with the awesome smells that go through the Market when they are cooking samples. Bill and Mary keeping have replica model ships which Bill makes from the original plans. These are need to be seen to be appreciated. Chair Massage has been an added feature this season and I personally have a standing appointment every Sunday after lunch. Bonnie Cotter is a joy to have in the Market. She makes the heart passes. I will put her website up in a day or so, along with Jean Nicol, who publishes the books of Sandra Mason and they are also with us this season. Jean has also written and published her own book "The Eating Game". This is a great help aid for families with children who have a problem with eating correctly.

We have a very large Antique booth which houses 2 dealers. A very large consignment booth is in the center of the market with a great space to walk back and forth from side to side. Wonderful items there.

AS time goes on, I will put us pages for my vendors. At this time I am just new at this so bear with me. I have probably forgotten some. Yes, Steve the Plant Man, very nice lilies and perennials and Beulah the lady who sits and knits the wonderful sweaters and shawls you see on the wall. And of course, there is Dan the Coin man. Dan has been with us 11 years and each year tells us he is not coming back. The Market wouldn't be the same without him. He is what some vendors call the" Bank." He always has enough change to keep us all going on busy days.

Ian Scott from Truro turns the most wonderful pens, key fobs, cork screws and other small items in a variety of woods. James Gillis is also from the Truro area and he does pewter. Some jewelry but also card stands and Christmas ornaments . We have two full jewelry vendors, Donna who does beads and glass and Betty who designs her own and cuts her own stones . She spends most of the winter in Florida taking courses to improve what she does.

We have 3 people selling body products, Millstream Cottage Crafts , Ellen MacDonald and Vickie MacIsaac.

When we first took over the Market, we removed the fee to get in. This still remains the same today. We are not a Farmer's Market even though we have meat, plants and some organic veggies. WE are a Craft Market, this is what we specialize in.

We are always looking for new and wonderful crafts to have in the Market. It keeps the Market fresh from year to year.
